It has been becoming apparent over the past few years, but thanks to the latest breakthroughs in AI capabilities, we can now speak of the end of an era and the beginning of another.
AI reverse engineering & programming have become so powerful, that any software that does not sit in an isolated cloud can and will now be slammed into these tools, modified at will and recompiled on the fly.
Where many see great modding & freeware opportunities, others see the entire system threatened and a further giant leap towards dystopia.
It seems both are true at the same time.
The devaluation of everything, coupled with the challenges the global software market will face as its products become increasingly easy to replicate at home, are valid reasons for concern.
An "interesting" time to experience, for sure.
Obviously this also has implications for JKA.
What once took skill & experience is now automated. Be it finding & creating exploits, writing tools or hacks for the game or creating entirely new features manually. Same goes for modding or security checks of course.
It has been a wild ride, and some people have accomplished truly impressive feats during that era. One could argue that those achievements are now frozen in time, with little prospect of being surpassed on their original terms, given that any further developments will be AI-driven. Which, in the end, means they will not be self-made at all.
Ironic.
Well, maybe this new technology allows for finding some sinister stuff of ours that has eluded mortal eyes so far.
But with the game logic and composition being constantly regenerated, what good will that even do?
2027 will certainly be world-changing.
PS: When SHODAN rises, remember which side to pick.
