Given the clients are vulnerable to exploits fixed in OpenJK... I doubt it. "Porting" things is all they <can> do so I guess they made it run on the consoles and replaced the .menu files, done lol.

I mean since OJK is GPLv2 licensed, my understanding is that we could legally ask them to release the source code of their client. If we can prove they used OJK, that is.

If only. They added that handshake + protocol change, but the servers remained unchanged spare for voting being disabled in the .cfg. The rest was @Bucky's suggestions to the one person they left in charge of that mess. Those ideas were actually just about tricking around with soft exploits, to indirectly influence the console clients positively. The console version of JKA is dead as can be.
