Well from what I read in my (5min) search, since EA holds the license for the Alice IP he has to use his own assets or in this case patreon to finance a demo of the game. After that he can bring it to EA and they'll say if the will continue it or not.

Adam, try running it with Windows Vista compatibility mode. You can do it by clicking properties and choosing it from the dropdown list. Then it should work perfectly.
